Lawsuits Are Mounting Over Bullying
The escalating concern of student-on-student bullying is gaining heightened attention, with parents resorting to legal actions to advocate for their children. Earlier this year, our founder, Lester Taylor, shared valuable insights on this pressing issue during an interview.
Addressing the challenges faced by school districts, Taylor highlighted, “You’ve got school districts that are already cash-strapped, juggling various priorities such as hiring and retaining qualified personnel, expanding academic and extracurricular programs, addressing special education needs, and managing facilities and transportation. However, there is no additional funding allocated for [harassment, intimidation, and bullying] personnel. This is something that warrants review by the state government and legislature.”
In the interview, Taylor emphasized that cases leading to lawsuits against school districts for bullying are rare, representing only a small fraction of the daily bullying complaints received by school districts.
Reflecting on the impact of bullying litigation, Taylor remarked, “While it does raise awareness and prompt necessary dialogue within the educational community, both at a policy-setting level and in day-to-day administration, these instances are, in my experience, exceptions rather than the norm.”
